Consulting Actuaries · Personal-Injury Damages

Leading Actuarial advice.

Fero is a specialist actuarial practice that quantifies financial damages in personal-injury litigation — loss of earnings, loss of support and future cost of care — in expert reports that guide South Africa's leading delict attorneys.

One discipline. Done properly.

Most firms treat damages as a sideline. We don't do anything else.

Fero exists to answer one question with rigour and independence: what has this injury, or this death, actually cost — in rands, over a lifetime? That focus is why attorneys instruct us when the quantum has to hold.

Scope

What we quantify

01

Loss of earnings & earning capacity

The core of most RAF and third-party claims. We model pre- and post-morbid earnings over a working lifetime, apply appropriate contingency deductions, and reconcile to the industrial-psychology and medical evidence.

02

Loss of support

Fatal-accident and breadwinner claims. We value the support lost by each dependant — income, personal-consumption share, remarriage and other contingencies, and the changing household over time.

03

Future medical & cost of care

Present-value capitalisation of lifelong care — case-manager and life-care-plan costed items, assistive devices, therapy and treatment — discounted on a sound net-of-inflation basis.

04

Medical-negligence quantum

Loss of earnings, cost of care and loss of support arising from clinical negligence, including catastrophic paediatric and cerebral-palsy matters that run over a full lifetime.

05

Contingency & apportionment

Independent modelling of general and specific contingencies, apportionment of dependency and "but-for" scenarios — the analysis that decides how much of a headline figure actually survives.

06

COIDA & occupational loss

Quantification of earnings loss and dependency arising from workplace injury and occupational disease.

Why Fero

Excellence honed through experience.

Independent

We quantify the loss the evidence supports — not the number a brief asks for. That independence is what makes our reports credible to a court.

Defensible

Every assumption sourced, every calculation transparent, every report written to be read by a judge and challenged by opposing counsel. We reliably hold up in joint minutes and in the stand.

Fast, without cutting corners

A lean, senior team and a purpose-built calculation engine mean court-ready reports on litigation timelines — nationwide.

Experienced.

Our actuaries have decades of combined experience in exclusively personal-injury matters, with members at past RAF panel actuary firms and management experience at JSE-listed corporates.

The Team

The people who stand behind the number

TR

Tristan Roodt

Principal

Tristan built Fero into a leading South African actuarial damages consultancy. During previous tenures he consistently rose to become a top performer in accuracy, client servicing and project delivery at other leading damages firms — with exposure to both Plaintiff and Defendant (Panel Actuary) Road Accident Fund work, as well as medical negligence and other delict valuations. His specialist experience and deep understanding of actuarial RAF calculations ensure superior insight when interpreting instructions, medico-legal and psycho-legal reports.

ZH

Zane Heyl, FASSA

Fellow of the Actuarial Society of SA

A senior actuary with a career spanning life insurance, actuarial consulting and management consulting. Zane has demonstrated superior technical ability, driven by a disciplined commitment to excellence and eternal curiosity. This grounding in mortality, morbidity and long-term financial modelling is precisely what a lifetime loss calculation demands — and it is Zane's independent sign-off that stands behind a Fero report when the quantum is tested.

PG

Peru Govindasamy, FASSA

Fellow of the Actuarial Society of SA

A senior actuary whose experience includes senior actuarial roles at one of South Africa's major life insurers. He brings deep technical and commercial actuarial judgement to Fero's most complex quantum matters, from catastrophic-injury claims to loss of support.

ED

Eugene Du Preez

Actuarial Analyst

Eugene is an actuarial analyst at Fero, bringing strong quantitative skills to the technical work behind the firm's personal-injury damages calculations. Outside the office, he's a keen golfer — with probably the lowest handicap across the org.

TN

Tanja

Admin Lead

Tanja runs the firm's operations and client liaison, managing the flow of every instruction from first brief to final report. She is the person attorneys deal with day to day, and the reason a Fero matter never loses momentum.
